Wow, it is hard to believe that today was our 41st day of Kindergarten. We have been very busy getting to know our "school family" and having fun with different learning activities. We begin each day with a morning meeting. We sit in a circle on the floor and greet one another through a song and movement or simple handshake. The next part of the meeting is a group activity, followed by news and announcements. The meeting usually last for fifteen minutes. This teaches cooperation, self-worth, respect for others and it has built a sense of community in our room. I am so proud of how well my students are adjusting to a new time schedule, separation from parents and new expectations. I know they are tired at the end of a long week from their jobs of learning and please continue to be patient with them. They are continuing to build stamina and establishing our routines throughout the day.
This week we explored the letter Dd and we continue to learn letter sounds. When we are writing we draw a picture to match the words and stretch each word and write the sounds we hear. We then check the alphabet chart for sounds and look at our word wall to help reinforce sight words. Writing workshop usually begins with a mini lesson on the writing process. The mini lessons focus on how to choose a topic, sketching a picture that relates to the writing and adding labels to their pictures. I always encourage the children to write what they know about and what they care about! I am looking forward in sharing their writing during parent conferences November 24th or 25th. Enjoy the weekend and thank you for the opportunity of being part of this learning process.
